Connections for Children was proud to partner with El Camino College and Professor Cynthia Cervantes, M.A. (Ed.), to bring the Los Angeles County Emergency Child Care Bridge Trauma-Informed Care Training Series to students, staff, faculty, and community members throughout the El Camino College (ECC) and Torrance communities which took place from April 2026 through June 3rd, 2026.
Led by Joselyn Corado Cornejo, M.A. (Ed.), Trauma-Informed Care Advisor at Connections for Children, the training series was offered in both hybrid and virtual formats from April 2026 through June 2026 to help meet the diverse needs of participants and increase accessibility within the community.
The training series focused on helping participants deepen their understanding of trauma, recognize how trauma impacts child development and learning, and explore practical strategies that promote emotional safety, resilience, and healing-centered practices. Participants were also introduced to the six principles of Trauma-Informed Care and encouraged to reflect on how to integrate these approaches into their current or future work with children and families.
The series was a total of ten weeks, covering topics such as understanding trauma and brain development, identifying and responding to childhood trauma, strengthening families through protective factors, and prioritizing self-care for those working with children and families.
Over the course of the series, 101 participants across the Westside and South Bay communities of Los Angeles County participated in the training. The series brought together current and future educators, early childhood professionals, students, and community members who shared a common goal: building knowledge and becoming more trauma-informed to better support children and families.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the training series was the sense of connection and community that developed throughout the experience. Participants engaged in thoughtful conversations, reflected on real-life experiences, and supported one another in learning how to create safer, more compassionate environments for children.
