You Are Not Alone: CFC Provides Fire Relief Stipends to Child Care Providers and Families

On May 14, 2025, Connections for Children brought families and child care providers together for a special evening. These families and providers were affected by the Pacific Palisades Fire nearly four months ago, and this event was our way of showing them that we still care.

In partnership with the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles and with the support of multiple generous donations from our partners at Save the Children, California Community Foundation, Steins, Goldman Sachs, Ballmer Fire Aid Fund, Keck Foundation, and Rhodes, Connections for Children was able to provide families in our subsidized program and child care providers who had their sites/homes damaged or destroyed by the wildfires with $217,200 in fire relief stipends.  However, this event was about more than just financial help, it was about healing and connecting.

CFC staff and stipend recipients shared a warm dinner and engaged in heart-felt conversations. Families and providers were able to take materials needed like air purifiers, diapers, wipes, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).  Participants were also invited to create their own floral arrangements — a symbolic way to honor what’s been lost and celebrate what still blooms.

One of the most impactful parts of the evening was hearing directly from those affected—stories of loss, strength, rebuilding, and hope.

One parent shared:

“To receive this support now, nearly four months later, is more than financial relief. It’s proof that we haven’t been forgotten—that we are still in the hearts and minds of those who care. Thank you, Connections for Children, for seeing us and reminding us that we’re not alone.”

This message means everything to us. At Connections for Children, we want every family and provider to know that they are not alone. We are here and we care.
