Connections For Children

(DLD/ Module 3)

Adults regard music as one of the performing arts. Young children do not! For them, making music is much more akin to playing a game. This presentation introduces SONG GAME, a research-based, classroom tested activity for teachers working with children 2-5 years old. SONG GAME focuses on the natural, rhythmic responses that young children experience when interacting with language patterns that occur specifi-cally in songs. Special emphasis is given to 1) how rhythm instruments, such as drums and maracas, can help boost early linguistic, cognitive and perceptual development; and 2) how teachers with no music background can utilize current skills in the role of Music Leader to offer fun, language rich, music-making activities.
